Welcome New Executive Director, Bob Greenberg

Welcome New Executive Director Bob Greenberg

It is a great pleasure to announce that Bob Greenberg of Birmingham, AL will be joining Synagogue Emanu-El as our new Executive Director starting June 1. Bob is a seasoned leader administrator and educator. He has served as Executive Director of the Conservative Temple Beth El in Birmingham since 2011. Before that he served as the head of the N.E. Miles Jewish Day School in Birmingham for 6 years and as Director of Academics at Greene Street friends School in Philadelphia, PA. He has a BA from Vassar College (1982) and an MA from UNC Chapel Hill (1987). Bob brings expertise in management, fundraising, communications and strategic planning. I think it is fair to say that all who have met Bob through zoom and in person interviews have been impressed by the depth of his experience and the easy going, friendly interpersonal style he brings to every interaction.

Bob and his wife Cherie are planning to move to Charleston in early August. They have already visited once and more visits are planned for June and July. On behalf of our Emanu-El Community I want to thank our search committee par excellence Lydia Mandel, Karen Pinosky, Gary Weinstein and Tamar Sternfeld for all of their hard work leading to this wonderful shidduch.

-Craig Browdy, President

“I am delighted to be joining the Synagogue Emanu-El community at an important time. With the arrival of Rabbi Evan Ravski, and the leadership of new Board President Craig Browdy, the synagogue is in a position of strength to provide Jewish experience and connection during these difficult times. This challenging moment calls for new ways to provide Jewish study, ritual practice, and communal connection, which are vital for a flourishing spiritual life. My professional mission has consistently revolved around finding ways to touch people: through Jewish education, care during sickness or loss, purposeful social action, and celebration during times of joy. These are the cornerstones of a Jewish life, and as Executive Director I look forward to strengthening each of these areas in partnership with the synagogue leadership and greater Charleston Jewish community. My wife Cherie, along with Giant Schnauzer Sherlock and Labrador Retriever Izzy, look forward to meeting the community and finding the perfect pet friendly Charleston beach.” -Bob Greenberg
