Synagogue Emanu-El Maryville Cemetery

In the early 1950s, shortly after the founding of Synagogue Emanu-El in 1947, the leaders of the congregation procured a site off Highway 61 on Sycamore Road in the historic Maryville area of Charleston west of the Ashley River.  At that time, the synagogue was meeting downtown in the Hampton Park Terrace area.  The congregation has been using our beautiful cemetery since.  In 1979, a new synagogue followed, moving about three miles from the cemetery property near the Northbridge.

The cemetery is conveniently located in central West Ashley.  It is dotted with grand oak trees draped with Spanish moss.  Generations of our synagogue's members rest in this holy ground, as will the generations to come.

The Jewish Historical Society of South Carolina has an extensive listing of burials at Synagogue Emanu-El's cemetery.  Click here to access that information.  Find-a-Grave's Emanu-El data is also helpful.

For more information about the cemetery, please contact the synagogue office at (843) 571-3264 or click  here.
