Mar 24 COVID-19 Update:  Synagogue Staffing

To our Synagogue Emanu-El Family

I recently read a commentary that the current COVID-19 impact is evolving. It doesn't feel that way. It feels like it is devolving at warp speed. What we thought we knew 2 weeks ago we now know was but a hint of what we knew last week. What we know now is likely to be little more than a harbinger of what we will know a week from now.

At the synagogue, a team is working tirelessly to insure that our sense of community will help us get through this ever changing landscape. As Rabbi Rosenbaum shared, make sure "that social distancing isn't spiritual distancing." Join our on-line services and educational opportunities. Make ZOOM a new part of your vocabulary. Join Sisterhood's virtual book club and recipe exchange. Simply call a congregant who you think might be feeling alone. Make this the time that we make tikun olom a priority.

Throughout all of this our staff continues to answer our questions, distribute communications, maintain the building, acknowledge donations and, yes, pay our bills. For this we thank them. To improve their safety, we are modifying office hours. While the building remains closed, the staff's new schedule is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10:00 AM until 2:00PM. If you call with an emergency outside of office hours please contact the Rabbi via text or a voice call 843-696-5187. If it is not an emergency, please leave a message on the office voice messaging system 843-571-3264. Rest assured that you will receive a call back as soon as possible.

As a congregation we will help each other get through this dark, unsettling time. On behalf of the entire Board, we look forward to welcoming you back to the full spectrum of life at Emanu-El. We look forward to getting back to Shabbat services where the biggest question is tuna or egg salad!

May you and your family stay safe and healthy.

Best regards,
Marsha Gewirtzman
President
