Mar 15 Update: The Impact of COVID-19 at Synagogue Emanu-El

In light of further developments and decisions regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we must balance the best ways to serve the Emanu-El community while also maintaining our sacred task of pikuach nefesh, saving lives.

After sincere deliberations, we will restrict activities within our building to worship services only.

-We will continue offering weekday minyan, Monday through Friday morning, Tuesday/Wednesday afternoon and other afternoons on request. We will hold the service in the sanctuary and ask those who are attending to observe social distancing, staying at least 6 feet away from each other. Also, we will be streaming the services online; if you wish to follow the service in this way, go to https://zoom.us/join and type in the following Meeting ID number: 593 714 1590. As long as there are 10 in minyan in the synagogue, you can say kaddish at home along with the minyan. As we have said previously, if you feel sick or are in a high-risk demographic, we urge you join minyan electronically.

-While the building is essentially closed other than for worship, there will be employees present during regular office hours if you wish to contact them by phone, text or email about synagogue business. For the sake of our employees, we ask that congregants only contact our office electronically.

-We will make a decision regarding Shabbat services later in the week. Please note, though, that if we hold services, we will not have kiddush. While kiddush is a tradition we cherish, the risk is too great as we sit close together.

We urge you to continue to use your best judgment in coming days and to recognize the importance of social distancing for both our sake and the sake of others. As always, we remain responsible for one another, and we as a congregation will continue to be here for you.
