Mar 17 Update: Services Cancelled, Online Worship & Classes Added!

Tuesday, Mar 17, 2020 - Building is closed except for minyan - contact office via e-mail or telephone only.

Dear Emanu-El Family,

We hope that you are staying safe during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We want to continue to assure you that your synagogue is here for you, even as we must make changes to the way we connect and pray. The Jewish principle of pikuach nefesh, saving lives, must remain paramount, and we encourage you to continue to take proper health precautions and maintain social distancing.

But a synagogue remains a Beit K'nesset, a house of gathering. So, here are some ways we can still "gather":

(1) Worship services

Worship services will not take place at the synagogue for the time being. We are not sure how long this will be the case, but we will continue to keep you updated. With that said, Rabbi Rosenbaum will continue to lead weekday services at their scheduled times, albeit without a minyan present. Even though we will be unable to recite a complete service, it still behooves us to take part in communal worship, albeit from a physical distance.

Here are some things to know if you'd like to join these services:

-You may log into these services here.  If asked for a Meeting ID number, use 593 714 1590.

-If you would like access to a Siddur, please email Rabbi Rosenbaum at so he can send you a PDF. Note: As this is both a sacred text and intellectual property of the Conservative movement, the Rabbinical Assembly has asked that such copies be used only temporarily and with limited distribution.

-Also, since there will not be a minyan, go to this link for a prayer in lieu of Kaddish when a minyan cannot gather:

(2) Online Classes

We also will provide several opportunities this week to connect with our community. Our need to learn, discuss, and share is not minimized by the current medical threat. To take part, please click here.  If asked for a Meeting ID number, use 593 714 1590:

-Wednesday, March 18th, 1:00-1:30PM: Jewish Ritual at Home.Judaism has always celebrated home rituals. Get insights into how to make this more a part of your family's life.

-Thursday, March 19th, 6:00-7:00PM: Virtual Danish & D'rash.Join us to discuss the meaning and implications of this week's parsha

-Friday, March 20th, 5:00-5:30PM: Shabbat Melodies. We'll sing some songs in anticipation of the start of Shabbat.

-Saturday, March 21st, 8:30PM: Havdallah. Learn how to bring the beauty and meaning of this brief ceremony at the end of Shabbat into your home.

It is so easy to succumb to the restrictions we are experiencing with frustration and fear. Let us think about how we can emerge once this is over with a renewed appreciation for Judaism, learning, and the power of our community.

As before, please contact our office electronically with questions and if we can assist you during this challenging time. Please look for a weekly email outlining the congregation offerings for staying involved and connected
