How are we making our High Holiday services open to young children?

The themes of the High Holidays are so serious that it's sometimes difficult to determine the best way to include young children in our observance. But experts tell us that doing so can be highly beneficial for childhood and overall family happiness. In a 2007 study published by an academic journal called Infants and Young Children, Drs. Mary Spagnola and Barbara H. Fiese write that "Naturally occurring family routines and meaningful rituals provide both a predictable structure that guides behavior and an emotional climate that supports early development."

At Synagogue Emanu-El, we support this concept. We welcome children of all ages, and we want to make it as easy as possible for them to experience the High Holidays with us. For the first time, High Holiday babysitting will be free of charge and provided at all services. You can find a schedule for it on page 10 in our High Holiday booklet. Also, check out page 5 of the booklet for information about our high-quality Youth Services.

We can't wait to see your whole family at synagogue!
