THE ROSE AND TED LEVIN CHILDREN”S LIBRARY

The Children’s Library is known as “The Rose and Ted Levin Children’s Library”.

By 2006, no new books had been bought for our Children’s Library in the previous 9 years and the collection was somewhat sparse. In the 2006/2007, we purchased new books as each holiday approached and enhanced our Purim, Pesach, Sukott and Hanukah, and Holocaust sections.

Many of the books chosen are Sydney Taylor Book Award winners or honorees. Sydney Taylor was the author of the classic All-of-a- Kind-Family about the adventures of five Jewish immigrant sisters growing up on New York City’s Lower East Side. The book award named for Sydney Taylor, is presented annually to outstanding children’s books that authentically portray the Jewish experience. Presented by the Association of Jewish Libraries since 1968, the Award encourages the publication and widespread use of quality Judaic literature.

There are two computers in this library. One is for the use of patrons and offers Internet access, Excel and Word. Our library collection can be searched from this computer or from home. The other computer is the library server, with all the library data stored on it.

We have 2 small wooden children’s tables with 12 chairs, plus about 15 little chairs called “Sit Upons” for use during Library time when the children sit on the floor.

The walls are decorated with beautiful pieces of art work, created by the older children of the Religious school in their classes with art teacher Allie Debrow.
