Shabbat Shalom- A message from Rabbi Rosenbaum

Posted on October 28, 2011

My rabbinic colleagues often refer to the initials “A.C.” It stands for “Aharei haChagim” — Hebrew for “after the holidays.” The three-plus weeks of autumn holidays (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Simhat Torah, etc.) is such a busy time that many projects and conversations have to be delayed until A.C. — when the smoke clears, when we have a “normal” week to get back into a routine.

Admittedly, it takes a week or two to get used to this kind of week. So, it pays to remind myself — and you — of some of what we offer at the Synagogue on a regular basis:

-Emanu-El University takes place every Tuesday at the Synagogue from 7-8:30PM. We’ve had a wonderful start to the year, and we always welcome new students to join the classes.

-Numerous recent Thursdays have been interrupted with holidays … but we have now resumed my class on the Haftarah at the JCC. It meets from 9:15-10AM. Again, we welcome new attendees who would like to hear about the hows and whys of the Saturday morning service.

-Danish and D’rash still meets on Saturdays from 9-9:30AM. It’s a great way to start Shabbat morning, to discuss an aspect of the week’s Torah reading in depth, and to enter services in a thoughtful frame of mind.

Now that we are all “A.C.”, let us enjoy together the rhythms of a “normal” week.

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Rosenbaum
